Though Houston itself has changed dramatically in the past 50 years, our core values have not. Every employee is fully committed to the founding principles established by David Harvey, Sr. when he formed the business in 1957.
Where It All Began
Unique among construction companies, two engineers partnered to start Harvey. David Harvey, Sr. and Gerald D. Hines, armed with an architectural engineering degree and mechanical engineering degree respectively, agreed that a client-centric approach and uncompromising attention to detail would set the company apart. Hines left Harvey to focus more on forming his eponymous development firm, now known for preeminent architecture in the world’s major cities. Harvey went on to grow the firm to one of Houston’s largest general contractors.
Harvey of Today
Today Harvey is recognized for shaping the surrounding skyline for a diverse range of clients. Hines continues to work with us on such landmark projects as the 609 Main tower and BG Group tower. Daikin Industries commissioned us to build their manufacturing facility, the world’s largest tiltwall construction. Working with Gensler, we delivered a vibrant and budget-conscious office for the non-profit Child Advocates. Methodist Hospital Research Institute hired us to build their seminal translational research facility in the Texas Medical Center.
True Partnership
Though our clients vary in size and need, all have come to rely on us for the partnering spirit we instill at all levels of a project. Houston’s architectural community has come to know Harvey as a valuable member of the design team for our diligent care in preserving the architectural integrity of each project. MEP engineers appreciate our dedication to constantly exploring advances in mechanical systems and their integration into various types of buildings. We look to our subcontractors for their respective expertise and seek their input on ways to build better. Owners trust us to be stewards of their budget as if it were our own money.
