Awty International School Student Center
The Awty International School Student Center dramatically reshapes the existing campus serving 1400 students in grades 2 – 12 in Houston, Texas.
This project is a 56,200 SF addition to the existing Annunciation Orthodox School campus in the inner-city neighborhood of Montrose. The new Early Childhood Development building is a three-story steel structure with curtainwall, limestone masonry and plaster to match the existing building. This education building contains a cafeteria and kitchen, classrooms, administration offices, and a green roof for student learning. Located within the new site masonry walls is the second phase of the project, which consisted of relocation from the existing building and demolition for construction of a new sports court pavilion, canopies, and playgrounds.
Due to site constraints, the building was designed between the existing occupied buildings up to the property line leaving no room onsite for construction laydown and easy access. The project was built during the school year and required working closely with school officials to coordinate deliveries and construction to not impact daily activities and minimize disruption of the students and faculty.
