The Grundfos HQ project consists of a 50,000 SF office and administrative building and a 4,000 SF technical building. The office and administrative building includes a showroom space and exhibition area. The project was awarded as a true design/build with Harvey holding all of the consultant contracts as well as the design/build for the MEPF systems. The project was described by the ownership team as a “Ferrari” of a corporate headquarters. The unusual LEED components include 20% solar power for the building, twin underground rain water collection tanks, twin chillers, solar-powered boiler, AQ Pure water filtration system, exception envelope leakage reduction and enhanced indoor air quality control.

There were a number of challenges that our team had to overcome throughout the project. As we are all aware, the COVID-19 pandemic begain in March 2020, right as we broke ground. Our field team was challenged in learning how to mitigate potential transmission while keeping up with the aggressive schedule. In addition, the team was hampered by the reduced flow of materials from around the world. Alternates had to be evaluated and selected in an effort to keep the project moving. Finally, we were challenged to build a project with little owner involvement, as all but one owner’s representative lives in Europe and have been unable to visit the site since the groundbreaking.

This project is the first v4 for New construction in the state of Texas.
