This project is the complete renovation of an existing building constructed in the late 1920s. The façade facing Main Street, including the original reliefs over the windows and openings, were restored to reflect the building's original character and architectural features. The first floor houses the main exhibit area. Smaller exhibit areas are located on the first and second floors. Lawndale's administrative offices are located on the third floor along with studios overlooking Main Street that will be available for use by local artists. Because the finished floor elevation of the first floor is below existing grade, an entry tunnel has been added to the rear of the building that slopes from a courtyard to the first floor. In addition to all of the finishes being replaced, the building was brought into compliance with code, which required the addition of an elevator, fire sprinklers, and fire exit stairs.
